Owning and operating an employee benefits consulting firm has been a long time goal for JD. Beginning his career at the largest mid-market broker in the country, JD learned a considerable amount about the industry. The more he learned, however, the more he began to question the status quo practices of the brokerage world. Is shopping a health plan at renewal really the general extent of the services a broker provides? After years of experience with the same strategies of shopping at renewal and presenting clients with a "less bad" renewal every year, JD decided to charter a different path.

A Better Way Forward

JD set out to learn from top brokers, consultants, and solutions providers around the country. What solutions have the most innovative brokers and consultants around the country implemented to mitigate the rising cost of healthcare? What solutions were available to support plan members in their time of need? How are these plans set up and serviced to provide maximum efficiency?

JD learned from innovative TPAs, pharmacy consultants, stop loss providers, and consultants who have implemented these types of programs. It became clear that the best way forward was through the use of unbundled, alternatively funded programs.

Accordingly, JD set out to obtain a self funding professional designation and earned the designation as a Certified Self Funded Specialist (CSFS).

Relationships Matter Most​

During this time JD had the privilege of meeting and vetting dozens of employee benefits solutions providers. One stood out among them, Crumdale Partners. JD began working with Crumdale Partners in 2017 and the relationship quickly yielded exciting growth by way of fulfilling Liberty's mission of mitigating costs and enhancing the member experience. Because of this unique philosophical alignment, Liberty became a part of the Crumdale Partners suite of companies in November of 2018.
